TREATISE ON ROAD BIKE TRENDS
Sure, Shimano USA's Wayne Stetina said we're idiots for espousing the concept of disc brakes on road bikes, but we maintain that the move to hydraulic disc brakes is not only happening, but will grow increasingly popular. As always, for the bike makers, it comes down to differentiation, price points and new technology. In each of these three categories, disc brakes make complete sense. We never said that a disc-brake-equipped bike will win a stage in the Tour de France, but, why argue against new technology that could very well make safer cycling?
Disc brakes may not be showing up in the Tour de France any time soon, but they're already gaining traction with companies like Volagi.
